Dr Charbel Medawar Explains His New Nose Plastic Surgery Technique
Dr. Charbel Medawar, Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, firmly believes that the new endoscopic approach offers a remarkable advantage over the open approach in the final assessment of profile alignment.

What does the endoscopic Rhinoplasty benefit from?
Our technique benefits from the technological advances of our era and uses video assisted endoscopy to enhance the surgeon’s exposure and provide access to unreachable areas. In fact, endoscopic visualization during rhinoplasty is a game changer, allowing smooth resection edges and delivers a perfect symmetry of all bony and cartilaginous structures.

Is This New Endoscopic Rhinoplasty a Teamwork Effort?
Several LCD panels mirroring the original video source of the endoscope are positioned throughout the operating room allowing the anesthesiologist, the residents, the scrub techs, and the nurses to watch and participate throughout the procedure.

Is Endoscopic Rhinoplasty Clean?
The external and internal areas of the nose are thoroughly scrubbed with Betadine paint by the nurse. We make sure that we use diluted betadine around the eyes, in order to avoid any corneal reactions. Additional precautions include ointment in the eyes to prevent corneal abrasion. A throat pack of wet 2 in. gauze is lodged in the oral cavity to prevent ingestion of blood. Draping is then carried on by the resident or scrub tech, in a manner to precisely drape underneath the upper lip, therefore exposing the nasolabial angle for eventual aesthetic manipulation.

What Type of Endoscope Is Used in this technique?
Throughout the surgical procedure, a 4 mm 30° endoscope (Karl Storz®, Tuttlingen, Germany) is installed.

Is Endoscopic Rhinoplasty Technically Hard To Do?
In The Right Hands and With The Proper Experience, This Surgery Can be Done in under 90 minutes.

Are Patients Satisfied After an Endoscopic Rhinoplasty?
Responses and satisfaction with the overall experience were overwhelmingly positive
